Please, I could't find apropriate place to ask, so I'm asking here.. hopefuly I'll get the answer...

I have IBM DESKSTAR 41GB IC35L040AVER07-0

his electronics is dead, so I would like to know if electronics from 60GB (IC35L060AVER07-0) is compatible... If I buy 60GB disk, could i move electronics to 41GB disk?

Thanx a lot!
Greetz from Croatia, sorry 4 english...

The chances are that all the relevant important information such as landzone/park/head/sector/lba data etc are different and so there's no way you could swap boards. You could always hunt around the newsgroups/web making requests for a working 41GB Deskstar of the same model. I've had a number of IBM's go down on me (all driver electronics) they're one to avoid.

Mine was a 75GXP..30.1 GB I think.

Thanx I tought it may.. some previous IBM HDD had board of two.. one electronics and one with "landzone/park/head/sector/lba"

I'm on the newsgroups, but no sucess in my country...
It would be much easyer without knowing that I have some VERY needed data on that HDD Confused

Anyway, this is what 'they' said..

Quote:
Dear Mr Perisa,

You are likely to cause more damage than good without a cleanroom and even
if you use an exact drive it still may not work because the drives are
matched to the boards during manufacturing. Thus what you describe would
also void the warranty on both drives.

Regards

Ben Thorp

Boards are matched to the boards during manufacturing??
wtf.?

It may not work??!
Who will know if they dont know =))

Baybe someone who did it Wink

Are there any? Razz

Even it's very imporant you can send it off to data recovery experts to get it back, but it is very expensive..

Other than that, IBM sucks balls that's all I say!

Shocked
