Hi listen I have a problem, I am not really good at this but I will try to describe the problem as best as I could.
I have a Compaq V70 monitor and SiS 630/730 video card. And a while ago something happened with my monitor. You know the button that you press on the monitor and it pops up with a list of things you can change like brightness and color, and you can degause and stuff like that. Well when I press the button it just degauses, and I don't get a menu. I have no idea whats wrong, everything else is working fine.

New Monitor? Unless you feel confident enough to take apart your monitor and make sure it is all wired up ok.

Yeh even I don't take monitors apart, I tried once....and almost died they have some hefty capacitors inside..

Best to get a new one, or live with it.

Well if the button doesn't physically work then it is not really a problem we can solve.

Its not a problem its more of a breakage. Theres a difference.

Sorry Delete, does sound as if your monitor's firmware has worn out. As others have suggested -- best course of action is to replace the monitor outright and donate the old one to Good Will.

You can also try checking for software utilities available from the monitor manufacturer's website. They may provide a utility which would allow you to make the needed adjustments to your monitor from the Operating System instead of through the firmware. I have a KDS Visual Sensations 17" monitor which came with both options. I prefer the software adjustment since it is easier to use.

Bad news here is I think you said the monitor was a Compaq? I've not seen any adjustment utils for that brand - to my current knowledge.
