also worth noting....a few month back i had the same problem....it was down to my next door neighbour who was getting his kitchen re-done and had his microwave on the next wall for a bit......every time he switched it on my screen screwed up good style.

so ,could be your computer is picking up signals from other sources

That thought occured to me as well, however; I dismissed it because HazelVixen said it was a constant, steady raster scan line on both monitors he tried.

However, it would be good troubleshooting practice to eliminate all probabilities, even RFI (Radio Frequency Interferance) issues.

If he/she tried plugging an FM radio into the electrical outlet used by his/her monitor, hearing static on a known clear station would indicate RFI.

If no static is heard, then I would suggest trying to replace the Video Card next. (HazelVixen, know anyone who would let you borrow their video card for an hour or so?)
