I sent a few PM's and they are just sitting in my outbox....why are they not in my sentbox. I get a confirmation that the PM was sent.

Were those messages sent or not?

Please help!

They will be in your sent box when they are delivered to the recipient, ie.. when they are read.

A common problem with the outbox for phpBB administrators is when smbdy send a PM then erase it from the Outbox Smile
The recipient will be notified by an email to read...nothing.

is it a feature or a bug that I cannot read a message in my outbox to check what I said?
I have one from ages ago from someone who I guess (but can't believe!) has stopped coming to the forum. I can't remember what I said so not sure whether to keep or not just in case.

That is actually a long-standing bug.

It used to be possible to read (and even edit) the messages in the Outbox, a long time ago, back when dinossaurs roamed the Earth (that is to say a year or two ago hehe). However, some patches we had to implement broke that functionality, and it's been pretty much broken ever since.

As for whether any repair will be attempted, you'll have to wait for one of the people responsable for the site itself to say something on the matter (that would be chris or ShaolinTiger).

I tried to fix it a couple of times, but I'm not exactly what's causing it..

I will have another look some time..
