Sounds like a scam to me..

Welcome to freebb.co.uk, the Worlds first FREE broadband Internet provider. We are busily working towards the roll out of this incredible new service, which will be available to UK home users from Spring 2003.
You can pre-register your interest here today and we suggest that you do, as this service will be offered on a first-come first-served basis.

It is also available to those who already have a broadband connection at home.

hhmmmm so whats the benefit to the provider???

Definate scam.

Theres also no mention of what the speed of the service will be from what I can see. Maybe just some sort of looser seeing how many people will register.

Why not? Ive had my hotmail account for years as is by no means temporary.

For obvious reasons we cannot disclose our full business model prior to launch, but in order to progress to phase two - the provision of free broadband Internet access to our members - we need only 0.15% of the UK online population to register an interest. Registration will close when this amount is achieved, so don't delay.

There will be strict limits on the number of connections that we can accept in the early stages and one of the main factors will be how early you register your interest.

Has anyone thought that maybe in the end your "free" broadband will have an AOL type interface (forcing you to see advertisements of their choice while online?)

or maybe you'll only be allowed to be connected for 2 hours a week...after all they cant disclose their business plan...

If they were only connected for 2 hours a week then it wouldn't be broadband!

Also they would not cover the costs of a free service just by advertising. Its not just the hardware costs, imagine the support costs of supporting a frontend like AOL's!

My guess is that they are using this scam to collect primary e-mail addresses to sell to spammers. Consider how valuable a culled list such as this would be. You give them your primary, they send a confirmation e-mail to the provided address, you reply; they now have proof it's active.

After a few months or so, they just drop out of sight ... however, your e-mail address doesn't.
