They got caught for piracy amoung other things. Which I saw the first time, but still don't get what makes this special or different. They aren't the first or the last.

Since when does it have to be special or different, fastlanwan? Are you saying that we should not post up anything unless it is special or different? I'd say such a statement as pretty low.
And maybe if you found out who they were you might understand. Obviously you didn't bother. They were one of the largest news sources in the world for illegal "releases" of ripped material.
The place was big enough to warrant a Governmnent statement and a complete takeover of the domain. I'd place that right up there with "special" and "important". All the other ones I have seen just simply disappeared with no trace. The US DOJ felt in important enough to tell everyone what happened.
Now if you need to insult people, why don't you find someone else, dude.

i shouldn't really butt in, but i'm still in 'admin mode' from being on my own forum.
I can understand what fastlanwan was saying. it doesn't have to be special or different, but more than one word is generaly good
i'd never heard of the site untill now. because erm, well... err... i buy all my software etc so it doesn't interest me.

I meant "I" don't get what makes it special. Maybe you do, that's great. But stop with the insults, I don't want to go there and I hope you don't either.

I heard of ISONews before, and did not know they were into releasing pirated goods themselves, which leads me to wonder the real story here. Was ISONews busted for the content (like NFO's) or were they distributing, cracking, or violating other copyright laws? Heh, posting cracks or tutorials can be a violation of the DMCA (I never really seen any of that there). So I dunno. I always thought they exposed the scene like textfiles.com and the like.
Were they really busted, or is this a rumor?
Thanks

Ohh ok, after looking around the forums and the news, it makes sense now. Thanks for the links.
IMHO, this will take a court of law to get the DOJ off their backs, and with copyright laws as tough as they are nowadays, it's gonna be tough to convince a jury they were not involved in the scene, and prosecutors will be just aching to get them on the hot seat.
My question is, what kind of evidence is against them? Actual pirated files? Cracks? Tutorials? I do not think the NFO's alone will bust them. Have they been watching IRC conversations, DCC's, or watching all the forum posts? I have a hard time understanding... are there even charges filed against them?
regards

alittlebitnumb - not sure - there is almost nothing that I can find about the case or David Rocci except a few quotes on wired ans such. Isonews was quite the large scale operation but their largest competitor is still online. Nothing at all about the court case but he did plead gulity to "conspiring." I figure he plea bargained and got a reduced sentence and narc'ed on others. (that would explain the nearly complete lack of information on the case).

They were the biggest release site, have been for the past 4-5 years, they are being done for involvment in mod-chips I think and conspiracy to pirate.
Nforce is a good replacement though...I heard
The ISOnews staff said that it's not a real bust though, just a fake DNS entry.
The news stories certainly look real to me though.
