It sounds like you are using ADSL.
Unfortunately it is very unlikely that you can receive CallerID information through the ADSL router. Whilst the telephone cable leading to the router does carry both ADSL and Telephone signals (Unlike your regular telephone equipment it will not have a filter) the router itself is only sensitive to the ADSL portion of the signal.
To read CallerID it would need to be sensitive to the lower frequency signals of the normal telephone system and I have yet to see this in an ADSL router.
Not only this, it would also require an FSK (Frequency Shift Keying) module in order to decode the CLIP (Calling Line Identity Presentation) which carries the CallerID information between rings. So, the answer is almost certainly No, you cannot do this.
One solution comes to mind though
If you pick up a regular 56kbps dialup modem with CallerID this would suffice. You would not be using the modem to access the internet at all... but it will inform your computer when the telephone rings and also provide CallerID information. There is free software out there which harnesses this information to play caller-dependent-wavs or simply lift and replace the hook on unwanted callers. Dialup modems are readily available on eBay quite cheaply now that many people are switching to broadband solutions.
There is also some flexible software out there that will allow you to create a scriptable answering system... passing some callers to voicemail, playing recorded messages to other callers and even setting up FAX, Fax-on-Demand, electronic purchasing and many other systems.
Whilst you are unlikely to require all of the features of this type of call steering software some of it will be very useful to you - such as advising people that you do not accept calls from withheld numbers and instructing them on how to use the "Show CallerID" code if their telephone line is set up to withhold by default. This should deal quite effectively with telemarketers and nuisance callers.
Check out "VoiceGuide"... they may still have a free limited-feature version available.

Some telco's have it enabled by default, others you will have to request the service. Call your operator and enquire whether CallerID is enabled on your line and, if not, what you need to do to receive the service.
Before you commit to a modem, check that it has both Voice and CallerID capabilities... also check that the modems CallerID is compatible with the CLIP presentation in your country (The CLIP varies in format and transmission method. Most countries use the standard FSK method however there are countries using DTMF for their CLI Presentations... this is rare, but it is something you may need to research if you live somewhere 'exotic' )
