It's pretty much the same in sweden, they only offer 10MB or 100MB, I think 100MB is about 27 a month.

To be fair, it's not all BTs fault.

Several years ago, BT wanted to install fibre to every home (this about the same time that the cable companies were setting up shop) so that they could compete and offer TV etc (broadband was unheard of at the time).

But OFTEL said no.

Simple as that. The regulations got in the way. If they had been allowed to do what they wanted to at the time, we would all have fibre to our homes and the options would be wider.

I have heard that high speed is hard to get and pricey in some places in Europe.

It is pretty good in Canada. 10 to 15 Pounds would be about the standard price for broadband. I go with ADSL, but there are lots of options.
