Searching only came up with one topic not of use to me.
I've been given an iBook 2001? model M6497 500MHz/64MB/10GBHD/CD
It's working as I can just see the screen using a torch.
As CCFL don't just stop but fade I assumed a bad connexion so removed the battery & the two screws each end of the display.
However the back doesn't come off, is there some trick to this & am I even trying in the right place?

Thanks that started out so well but does everything except open the display.

Looks like the scrap heap as it's not worth paying for repair to such an old laptop Sad
I don't know what the four screws are for as nothing happens upon removal, maybe I'll try brute force as it's useless anyway.
I've tried all sorts of sites but they all want to sell something.
