We've got a SQL Server application installed and running on one of our Windows 2003 Servers and now we find that we'll need to provide Terminal Services access to 4-5 people outside our network. Terminal Services was not installed/activated when the server was originally set up and we read here and there that we'll be required to re-install the application if we want to now use Terminal Services on the machine.

Is this really the case?

If so, what alternatives are there that would not require us to re-install?

If not, what should we be mindful of going forward with installing/activating Terminal Services on a machine that is already in service?

Thanks in advance,

David

hello,

before you install the terminal service application -- you will be prompted to check your installed application environment -- if the windows found anything that wont match the criterion will be listed.

-- but my usual practice is first to install the terminal service, and after that the additional user application.

cheers.

Thanks for the reply!

I assume that it would be reasonable to assume (no guarantees) that if the app. is not listed it is likely to be "Ok"? If it is listed then it would be safer to reinstall the app.?

Any suggestion on an alternative remote desktop solution that would not require a re-installation of application(s)?

Hi David

I guess in your case you will have to install terminal services as its not activated Sad although in the case if you have terminal services already activated you can just install additional licenses on your C.A (certification authority) server for any additional no. of users.

I hope it all goes well for you.
