Using Kubuntu 9.04
I installed the nvidia-glx-71 driver from the respository. I tried running
nvidia-xconfig, but I got this output:
Quote:
joe@Kubutu:~$ sudo nvidia-xconfig
[sudo] password for joe:
sudo: nvidia-xconfig: command not found

Can someone tell me what I need to do?

Thanks.

I would suggest uninstalling, reinstalling, and checking the compatability of your card. Newer updates have left alot of graphics cards unsupported so thats always important to beware, though i'm not sure why that would effect the configuration command if it installed successfully. You did not receive any errors during installation correct?

This is my card installed on the computer:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV6 [Vanta/Vanta LT] (rev 15)
This is the information I got from: http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_32667.html
The 1.0-71xx driver supports the following set of GPUs:
Vanta/Vanta LT 0x002C

Someone referred me to this page:
Quote:
8.10 Release Notes

Upgrading

Users of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS can upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 by a convenient
automated process. Users of older Ubuntu releases need to upgrade to
Ubuntu 8.04 LTS first, and then to 8.10. Complete instructions may be
found at http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading. nVidia "legacy"
video support

The 71 and 96 series of proprietary nVidia drivers, as provided by the
nvidia-glx-legacy and nvidia-glx packages in Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, are not
compatible with the X.Org included in Ubuntu 8.10. Users with the nVidia
TNT, TNT2, TNT Ultra, GeForce, GeForce2, GeForce3, and GeForce4 chipsets
are affected and will be transitioned on upgrade to the free nv driver
instead. This driver does not support 3D acceleration.

Users of other nVidia chipsets that are supported by the 173 or 177
driver series will be transitioned to the nvidia-glx-173 or
nvidia-glx-177 package instead. However, unlike drivers 96 and 71,
drivers 173 and 177 are only compatible with CPUs that support SSE (e.g.
Intel Pentium III, AMD Athlon XP or higher). Systems with older CPUs
will also be transitioned to the nv driver on upgrade.

I think that the Nvidia-glx-71 drivers are no longer supported. I've tried
using nvidia-settings, but it told me to use nvidia-xconfig, which doesn't
exist on Kubuntu 9.04. I tried also to use the nvidia driver from their site,
which didn't work any better. This card works better without the nvidia \
driver.

I think I am using the vesa driver. Do you know how to switch to
the nv driver? i want to see if that works better. I can only get to
1024 x768 resolution and refresh is auto (whatever that is).

Thanks

I use

nvidia-common
xserver-xorg-video-nv
nvidia71-modaliases
nvidia173-modaliases
nvidia177-modaliases
nvidia180-modaliases
nvidia96-modaliases

these are the driver

for the acceleratore this package

xorg-driver-fglrx
xserver-xorg-video-ati

and these
xserver-xorg-driver-all
xserver-xorg-driver.vesa

I haven't your nvidia but another, and in my system the accelerator is ok.

Ubuntu or Kubuntu in this case, it's the only Linux system that ask you if you want use the original driver, this is as soon as you install Kubuntu and in the first access at the system.

Don't you have any question from the system please?
