we have group policy set to redirect "my documents" to a server share which works fine in windows XP...

in windows 7 though we have a different issue that i'm hoping someone has seen before...

when logged onto a windows 7 machine we get the following:-

start->documents = the server copy of the users documents (\\server\share\documents)

but

start->username->documents = local document store (c:\Users\username\Documents

i know this is something to do with how windows 7 handles libraries but i can't find anything in group policy that would disable a local document store...

anyone know how i might disable the C:\users\ library???[/b]

think it's something to do with the following option->

Also apply redirection policy to Windows 2000, Windows 2000 server, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 operating systems

will post more as i find out...

Battousai,

Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assistance and feedback.

Battousai,

You might need to create a new "Library" and assign it to the server share. Have you attempted this method by chance already? To create a new library in Windows 7, simply select "Libraries," select "New Library" from the top bar of the window, type a name for the new library (I.E. "Documents - Shared"), open the new library, and select the option to include a folder. From this step you would simply point it to the network share in question.

As a one off, go to the ACTUAL user document folder (under c:\users\...)
Right click "my documents", go to properties, Location tab, tell it the full path to the folder for this users documents on the server (not just the share or user folder, go right up to "documents")

OK, etc

This should a) redirect and b) set it up for offline use too so it goes to the CSC folder.

You should be able to redirect the folders properly with a policy. I'm finding that a lot of articles aren't being rewritten, republished or taggged and flagged for Windows 7 yet. Searching for how to do this on Vista may reveal more useful answers.

You could also try over at www.gpanswers.com, this will be bread and butter to those guys.

delete-libraries.reg
Alternatively, copy and paste the following code in a text editor such as Notepad and save as a file name extension. Reg then double click to run the file. Reg
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows CurrentVersion \ Curr \ Explorer \ Desktop \ NameSpace \ {031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}]

Log off and log on or restart the computer after you apply the registry hack, which removes previous registry keys or values. None of the libraries folder or shortcut will appear in the navigation pane in Windows Explorer and "Add to Library" item in the command bar will not work as well. Note that if you click on Documents, Music, Pictures or videos direct link on the Start menu, it will activate light Libraries.
