What is the best virus protection for my pc?
A few days ago I had a virus PSW.win32.kates.c.Nod antivirus has detected it and McAfee antivirus (after I uninstall NOD) but it did not cleaned. I am run the tool from kaspersky website Kateskiller and I clean virus with that tool.
I am a bit confused that my antivirus was not able to clean this virus.
What we recommend as the best protection from viruses and spyware?

Sorry about my english.

It is important that you consider how you got the virus - was it through mail, surfing or from another source?

If I should choose one AV product I would definitely recommend Kaspersky.

My company has chosen to sell and specialize in Kaspersky Antivirus for the workstations and Google Security products for mail and websecurity.

We have made a thorough study and it seems as if the combination of these tools best protect the companies that uses Microsoft systems (e.g. if you use Ubuntu there are much less security issues ).

Anyways you can read more about the different products on our website at www.itsecurityandcompliance.com

If you don't want to spend the money, you can look at these free options:
AVG
Avast
Panda Cloud Anti-Virus

I have used all of these with no problems. Some of them actually caught more Viruses then from the ones that you paid for at the store.
Hope it helps

A couple of things to consider, from your post it seems this is for a personal/home computer.

The reason your previous anti-virus did not catch the virus can be one of two reasons:

1. It did not have a signature for the virus
2. Their heuristics engine is not good. This is for unknown viruses or threats. Some AV manufacturers use anomaly-based detection to identify threats.

When selecting your AV make sure they provide; at the minimum, daily signature/pattern updates.

On my home PC's, I use Avira and am testing out Microsoft's Security Essentials.

Also, Comodo Firewall/AV is worth reviewing.

Thanks,
