This question is maybe off topic w.r.t. modern crypto. Here it goes:
Just as Caesar Cipher is a monoalphabetic substitution cipher and vigenere cipher is a poyalphabetic substitution cipher, what category do the following cipher machines belong to i.e. what is the underling principle used en-/decrypt using the following machines:
(i.e. do they use substitution or transposition, monoalphabetic or polyalphabetic etc.)
- Enigma rotor machine (have heard that it is a polyalphabetic substitution, not sure)
- Typex rotor machine
- Sigaba rotor machine
- Lorenz
- Purple
