what kind of background music? .wav file or that horrid elevator music stuff? IIRC it depends on the tag used and the browser parsing the page - don't bet on everybody being able to hear it regardless of how you do it though..

To get you thinking though, here are the top three browsers used by people who visit my page:
MSIE 6.0 2170 (63%)
MSIE 5.5 327 (9%)
Mozilla 5.0 289 (8%)

Easiest way to find out is to upload it and see if it does. You answer will be immediate.

...of course, this thread says nothing about the obnoxious nature of embedded sound. Quite frankly I think I speak for about 90% (or more) of the Internet community when I say, "PLEASE DON'T USE SOUND!"

You could try converting the midi to mp3 format ... makes for a smaller file signiture and cuts down on page loading time.

Because a very large proportion of people listen to music on their computers. When your page loads up a lot of people may get irritated at the fact that they have a midi file mixed in with their music.

Ive had it happen to me. If i can't stop the music on the site, then I just leave the page. simple as.

Why not ask users if they would liek to download the midi file to listen to? Its the best thing to do in my opinion. websites are websites, not fully blown interative multi-media presentations that come on some singles cds.

Just my opinion of course. use the midi file in the background if you want.

Don't use sound on web pages, it annoys a lot of people and they'll leave immediately. Trust me, you'll get a lot more useful visitors if you leave the sound out.

You'd also be better off using something other than Front Page, which is a popular but very bad application. The best way is to use a text editor, there are heaps available, just search Google and you'll find them.

These sound comments are like if you asked people if they like pop up ads. The game and sound makes some sense but give the user the option by a button. Also midi sounds very bad, you'll get superior quality from mp3's.
