We have SQL 2000 installed and now have 10 CALs for SQL 2005. Is it possible to use the 2005 CALs with the 2000 install? Can the licenses be downgraded if not used directly?

if you have 10 CALs for SQL 2005, why not install SQL2005?

@srobert - because it it perfectly possible to have CALs for 2005 but server license for 2000

@jhadur - yes, the downgrade rights allow you to do exactly that. If you somehow bought the CALs through OEM they probably don't let you - OEM licenses from MS tend to have no downgrade rights.
