SSL vs TLS symmetric key

Hello, I know that SSL uses a public private keys to agree on the symmetric key but how does TLS agree on the symmetric key by using the Diffie -Hellman. DOes this mean that TLS does not use the public and private keys as SSL for the symmetric key and if yes how is the secure website identified without public private keys ?
