|
|
As many members and visitors are beginning to post their HijackThis Logs to be viewed by our "Resident Experts", it is becoming quite a confusion in the Forums.
Therefore, in order to assist everyone involved; please post your HijackThis Log with the following Topic Subject as HijackThis Log - Username. As an example, if I were to post a log, the Subject of my post would be:
HijackThis Log - PCWriter
or even...
HJT Log - PCWriter
Please post your log in the HighjackThis Logs / Malware Removal Forum only. Otherwise there may be a delay before a Team member can respond to your post. (That delay being the time it will take for a Staff Moderator to discover your post has been submitted to the wrong forum, and needs to be moved to this forum )
First, make sure that you have the most recent version of HijackThis. The current version is 1.99, and can be downloaded here:
'Hijack This!'.
When you post your log, be sure to post the entire log including the header as shown below:
| Quote: |
Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.2
Scan saved at 7:20:56 PM, on 6/19/2004
Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) |
To generate a log - do this:
1. Double-click on HijackThis.exe.
2. Click on Scan.
3. When the scan is finished, the Scan button will change into a Save Log button.
4.Click on the Save Log button to save the log, press Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here in a new post.
Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, so please don't fix anything yet.
Please follow the suggestions of Meeeeeeeeeeee when posting your log:
Here are some things you should do to help us analyze your log better:
1) Please include the header - it has vital information. When you scan with HijackThis, click "Save log" and it will save itself to notepad. The top section is the part we need. (edit: we need all the rest of the log too!)
2) Let us know what your problem is - it's easier to help that way. Or, if you just want to be double-checked just in case, let us know that too!
(Please do not click on any of the hyperlinks listed in a posted log as they can cause adverse effects to your system!).
Who to listen to?
Sometimes a member of this site will wish to be helpful and reply to your post. Although admirable, the member does not have the advanced training and experience that is given to S.M.A.R.T. Members. It is our suggestion that you await a reply from a S.M.A.R.T. Member or S.M.A.R.T. Trainee before acting on advice.
You can identify their posts simply by looking under their names on the left side of the post. It will say either 'S.M.A.R.T. Member' or 'S.M.A.R.T. Member Trainee'. If you are being assisted by a S.M.A.R.T. Member Trainee, be assured that you are indeed being assisted by two or more people. Our Training Procedures require all Trainee responses to be monitored and approved by a Trainer.
Finally, be sure to read Groovicus’ Guide to Simple P.C. Security located HERE!.
Thank you!

In the solving of many malware problems it is essential that steps are followed in a certain logical order. There is no way of ensuring that you are receiving the best possible help if you are getting advice from multiple sources. In addition, there is a limited pool of spyware helpers and it is unfair for one person to be occupying the time of two of them. There are too many people with similar problems waiting patiently to be helped. Therefore we must begin to enforce the following policy:
Please do not seek assistance here at SFDC and at another website at the same time. If this is done we will close the thread in question and the poster will be referred to the other website.
