I recently stumbled accross this thread. I was previously connecting to the VNC server without encryption. I installed OpenSSH server on my windows xp machine and installed the latest version of WinVNC. I loaded Putty on the client machine and was able to establish a SSH connection and create a tunnel by forwarding the VNC ports. I am able to connect with WinVNC through the tunnel, but it disconnects after 15 seconds. The SSH connection remains but WinVNC just terminates. It works fine without tunneling, but it's insecure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone else experienced these disconnects? Thanks.

I have to give 2 thumbs up also for TightVNC

Here is the homepage for anyone looking for it.
http://www.tightvnc.com/

Also I find that it performs a hella lot faster over a dialup connection that straight WinVNC. (Just make sure you turn of wallpaper viewing)
