I'd be inclined to increase the amount of RAM, stop any unnecessary services and defragment the hard drive in the first instance.

Vista is well known to be slow on startup (I manage several at work), so don't expect it to be as "zippy" as XP or Windows 7.

Remove unnecessary startup items VIA MSConfig.

Turn down visual effects VIA Control Panel > System > Advanced

Depending on how much stuff you have on your computer, the best option may be a clean reinstall of Windows. And by best, I mean most effective in terms of speeding up Vista.

Generally window vista require minimum 512 MB RAM for running with great speed. You can use more amount of RAM to speed up your vista home like 1 GB or more.If you have enough RAM then you have to delete your pc's temporary file on regular basis and also for that you can use softwares like cccleaner, quickheal pc tuner.you have to do also fragment of disks.
