What exactly do the moderators do, and don't say "They moderate the forums". And what are the point of Usergroups, I read the faqs and I still don't understand very well. Thanks Very Happy

Well moderators, they moderate the forums Very Happy

Hehe..

Well really they watch for posts that are:

a) in the wrong place
b) out of order (racist, abusive, adverts, spam etc)

They move, edit and delete, warn users etc. Answer questions, help n00bs that kind of stuff.

We are in the process of making a proper FAQ relevant to the forum, not just the default one that is there.

Usergroups are just to make the admins life easier, like we can add people to user groups, and make the group moderator of a section rather than having to do individuals, plus we can give special rights to groups, access to private areas and do mass mails by group.

We don't really use groups to be honest though.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask Smile

Yeah, I have another question:
How can I (or anyone) become a moderator? I have always thought it would be cool and also a learning expierince to be an adminastrator or moderator of a site like this. Just Curious

You don't chose, you are chosen Wink

When people are regular, and they show the right attitude and aptitude we ask them if they would like to moderate certain sections.

And to be an admin, you have to make a site yourself really.

OK, I see. Thanks, I have noticed that you are on top of pretty much every question I have asked. I really appreciate the feedback. Those jerks at antionline.com negg you for all you got when you ask a question. (For those who don't know, Anitonline lets you earn, or lose, antipoints which affect your reputation on AO. If you recieve too many negative antipoints, you are banned. I personally think this is a load of sh*t.) I'll ask a question, even after I read the FAQS and they will negg me until I have a banner warning I am going to be banned. OK, sorry, thats my two-cents on AO. My point is that I am glad SF doesn't have such a stupid system.

Another question:
I just noticed that some members have little stars (or something) underneath their avatar. Are these like antipoints, if so, then how come I don't have any? Thanks

Heh, well I try and answer everything.

We have a different ethos here, we don't allow flaming or lameness or random bullying.

We want to be a happy forum where everyone gets along, I terminate those that do not comply muahaha Evil or Very Mad

The ranks are explained here:

http://www.security-forums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26

I guess I'll add that to the FAQ.

Yeh your avatar is b0rked Wink

CTRL+F5 and you'll see what we mean.

I didn't notice because I was loading it from cache as you are.

If you view the gallery with an uploaded avatar it will get deleted, I guess that's what you did.

You'll have to upload it again.

Yeah, you should put that on the FAQs, so people have a goal they can achieve.

Well I'm pretty sure I've read 11401 give or take a few I missed when I was on holiday earlier in the year.

Quite scary really thinking about it..
