Hello piccolo_21, no shame in being largely a Windows user. To install an rpm package one normally does the following if memory serves
Code:

rpm -I /package/name

or for a tarball

tar -xvf /tarball/name

If the tarball has been gunzipped then use the following;
Code:

gunzip -dv /tarballl/name

It will now be decompressed into a tarball so that you can now use the instructions I worte down several lines before this ie: tar -xvf /tarball/name

Hope this helps

Slack doesn't support rpm (REDHAT package manager) kinda gives the name away Wink

If you want easy package installation Slack is probably not the best distro to use although it does have Swaret now which you can check out here http://swaret.sourceforge.net/index.php if you want easier package management you should probably check this out.

Or the standard way as Don mentioned is something along the lines of...

Code:
wget http:///website/package.tar.gz

gunzip -dv package.tar.gz

tar xvf package.tar

cd package

.configure

make

make install
