ok, every time i try to install something my comp. freezes up. ive tried to install Maya ,education version, Rogue Spear Urban Ops expansion, and Rome total war. I have 768mb of ram and a 2.0 gig processor so i dont really think its my comp. hardware or anything like that, unless could it be the cd rom is to slow or something? i would gladly like any response thanks.

More info please. How much free Hard drive space do you have? What type of file system are you running? What Ver of Windows? Have you installed the latest patches for your version of Windows? Have you checked for spyware?

Are you installing as an administrator?
What events show up in the event viewer?

Are you able to install downloaded software or is this isolated to things being installed from the CD ROM drive?

CD drives that aren't used much often fail. I have often had to install a new one when I wanted to put new software on a machine. They usually work on audio but not data.

can you elaborate alittle on whats happening.?
are you installing hardware or software.?
how much space is on your p/c.?
are you meeting the system requirments for what you are trying to install.?
when exactly does your comp. freeze- during an install, after, while youre opening the newly installed program.?
-------------
er, x-out some of those q's, didnt see that this was page 2 =p
----------------------------
sounds to me like one of the system requirments on the hardware side isnt working/compatible, just double check everything and for fun make sure your hardware is plugged in

files dont always copy themselves right during installs
try manually copying the data folder to the game folder from disc/install

I'd rescan the system for Virus and Spyware then I'd start looking at my hardware if I was you.
Sounds like a faulty brick of RAM or possibly a faulty processor.

well i dont have a virus or any spyware. and it better not be a faulty stick of ram because i just bought a stick of 512 and had 256 before that and it worked ok. What would the processor have to do with it? i have a 2.0 gig proc. but it is an intel celeron so you never know....

I think you just answered your own problem to be honest. 100 to 1 says this is the culprit.
Your computer runs fine, then you install new ram and then the problems arise.
Was it branded RAM or cheap generic rubbish Try taking the stick of 512 back out and install something you currently have problems with. Is your new stick of ram the same speed to what you have been using Have you ran Memtest 86
Your first post was very sketchy with the information, but now you mentioned a new stick of ram has been installed I am willing to bet thats the problem as you didnt have a problem before.
Just to add, I am currently having no end of problems with my RAM (yes its generic rubbish) So I plan to buy some Corsair Ram on payday At present some of my games dont install (sound failiar ?) My Memtest scores are horrid and I am getting BSOD's.
