One of my coworkers decided tot try and uninstall SP6 for some reason, and now he can not connect to the internet or any dial up networking sessions. I have checked the TCP/IP settings many times, uninstalled the NIC and reinstalled, and uninstalled all services and protocols and reinstalled. I can ping any IP address I want to, but it will not go online. There is also a dial up connection that he uses that will not work either.

He can share files and see all of the PC's on the network.

What should I do?

When he uninstalled SP6 did you reinstall it yet?

First really was there a known good full backup of that server before the unistall was run?

Just trying to get some more information before giving further recommendations.

Regards,

The last thing I tried before going home was to reinstall SP6, and it came up wih "Cannot install SP6 in Windows NT mode" or something similar.

And this isn't a server, it is just a workstation, and there is no backup. The first thing I was going to try this morning was installing SP6a and some updated NIC drivers, but I wanted to research it a bit before I started.

First check the current build. That should give you an idea of where you are at for the need of the SP. But you will eventually need to roll it to SP6a anyhow.

To check build:
Click on Start | run
type: winver
Enter

This will return the windows build version.

I would personally update to SP6a and update the NIC drivers.

Are you seeing any other possible TCP stack issues since the uninstall?
