Why recompile?

If you have the source code just compile it, compile it with whatever compiler is suitable for the language the code is written in.

gcc for c, g++ for c++, javac for Java etc.

Think he wants to amend the code before recompiling it, thats why he wants to get hold of the source code.

Without knowing the language nobody can recommend a compiler!

You should read the documentation with the source for the program.

Usually from the source directory you run:

./configure
./make
./make install

Think he wants to plant a nasty inside? What other reason could there be? Otherwise he'd have the actual source code and the correct complier.

No he doesn't have the brains to do that beleive me.. Shocked

He just wants to install Gaim on FreeBSD and there is probably no binary.

Exactly why would he ask how to compile the program, Probably just used the wrong term he said his English is bad.

That's a bit strong, isn't it?

He may not have the know-how - but to say he doesn't have the brains....
