Campaigners working to get NTL to overturn its decision to cap its broadband service have received a boost after winning the support of Geoffrey Robinson.

The Labour MP and former Paymaster General has said he will try to make fellow MPs aware of the NTL cap and is also trying to raise the matter in Parliament under an Adjournment Debate.

His support follows an hour-long visit to Kingsley Smith, the man behind the DontPayNTL Web site.

Kingsley's Mum, Sue, wrote to her constituency MP concerning NTL's decision to cap its cable broadband service.

In the letter she explained that the Government, and Prime Minister Tony Blair in particular, have "expended a lot of energy" in the name of "Broadband Britain".

But the country's progress has been impeded, she explained, after NTL "applied a brake" when it "decided arbitrarily to limit bandwidth to 1 Gig per day".

Speaking to The Register Sue Smith said that Mr Robinson was "genuinely interested" in the matter and was "taking up the cudgel on our behalf".

Cableco NTL introduced the 1 gig a day limit last month claiming that its objective is "only to limit very frequent or persistent heavy network use that can impact other customers".

According to an email I received the other day there have now been 4500 people sign the petition against NTL, i would have hoped this would have been slightly higher.

To those who havent signed the petition yet:
