Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes.

I've never really used internet security programs, and I'm pretty sure that someone has been using a trojan or something on my comp. I've seen some dodgy websites in my history which I know I've never been to, and so not wanting to take any chances, I threw my hard drive away and got a new one.

Am I ok now, or can I still be in trouble because of an ISP log?

You did not need to throw the drive away. Unless money is no object, in that case go right ahead.

As long as your system is properly patched and you have an antivirus installed you do not need to worry about anything. If your ISP hadn't banned you yet, they will not anymore since you got rid of the problem. If there was one to begin with.

You should be ok now, just don't forget to apply all security patches for Windows and make sure you have an antivirus installed. AVG, Avast, and Antivir are all good FREE antivirus software for home use.

why throwing the drive away?

Unless you were mixed up in a cyber attack or in an illegal trafficking case, i do not see any reason on throwing it away.

In worst case scenario, you might have been infected by a malicious software.

Finally as an answer... no.. .if you were not mixed up (your terminal) in an illegal case, then there is no problem.

So don't ISPs check the logs of customers? I'm not a perv or anything, honest, I just hear all these stories on the net, and I'm a bit worried that's all.

Customer logs can not be subjected in a search , unless there is a legal order to do so. This is ofcourse carried out in the presence of Authorities and not by ISP persons only.

So as i said, unless you did not do something illegal , ISP does not have any reason or right to check your logs.
