Hi,
lots of error messages are written to /var/log/messages that look like this:
Jun 1 13:16:19 DE254065 kernel: hdd: packet command error: status=0x51 { DriveR
eady SeekComplete Error }
Jun 1 13:16:19 DE254065 kernel: hdd: packet command error: error=0x54

Jun 1 13:16:19 DE254065 kernel: Cannot read medium - incompatible format -- (
asc=0x30, ascq=0x02)

as:
Jun 1 13:16:19 DE254065 kernel: "42 02 40 01 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 "
It seems to be not at first a esx server (2.5.3 patch1) problem but a linux kernel driver problem. However performance seems to be dropping and the root filesystem is filling up by these messages as long as these messages are coming in.
What does these error messages mean, what is causing it and how can I stop it? We rebooted the esx server and changed all virtual machines to startup disconnected to cdrom (seems to be not the default). This helped.
Best regards,
