I know of 2 things: cookies & IP address

Is there anything else? What about an online university website for instance. They run Java applets. Is there anyway a Java applet can leave a "cookie" not in the typical sense of the word but enough to keep one person from representing multiple students even with a new IP & cookies disabled?
