Hi all,
After some searching I ran across you site, and thought this was what I was looking for to maybe get some help with my questions.
I am by no means an expert here, so please bear with me.
Anyway, I am very heavily involved with the xbox online gaming community. With that, there are some individuals who go to great lengths to disrupt your internet connection. (Mainly with the usage of IIRC Bots I believe)
Anyway, these individuals will join a gaming session and utilize ip grabbers, such as "cain and able" to acquire your IP, and then flood your connection with these bots to "knock" you offline repeatedly.
The xbox connection suffers greatly when behind a firewall, so it is often recommended to place your xbox in the DMZ of your router.
I personally utilize a cable connection, to a linksys WRT610N router, then have my xbox hardwired (cable) from the router.
Putting a VPN device in front of your Xbox is going to provide you with 0 extra security. That's unless you are going to use the Xbox through a VPN tunnel. If you are really worried about security then make sure you have a firewall protecting your system. At the end of the day your not really going to be able to stop someone from trying to flood your connection but is it really that much of a problem? I mean if you had a 10Mb connection then I would have to waste 10Mb bandwidth to try to flood you. You can only flood people for so long. If it is a problem then I suggest maybe you report the user to their ISP. I best the AUP says something about that.
