I understand that a boot virus on the computer's boot drive (Drive A if a floppy or Drive C if a hard drive) will run or execute when the computer is booted.

What I want to know is if the boot drive is clean (lets say hard drive C) and a floppy or second hard drive is added and the computer booted, will an infected floppy or second hard drive infect the system?

Does the boot virus on the floppy or second hard drive execute?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Ken

Not really maybe in 1995 lulz .. chances are you booted into the infected OS and the malware popped all the devices and network devices on the network

Boot virus are not very common, but assuming you have a XP machine if there are any autorun files in your secondary disk or on the floppy they will execute when Windows XP scans the disk or floppy.

Newer windows don't have such a automatic bahaviour. And you can change it though GPO or registry manipulation.

As for state of the art malware I would say the stoned bootkit would be current boot virus. It boots as a boot virus and will compromise your system ignoring your full disk encryption. But the probability of you coming against that is about the same as you getting infected with a hypervisor virus like blue bill.
