one of my client want to install ANTI VIRUS application on Proxy server instead of installing anti virus on all other workstation which are connected to internet through that proxy server, my question is , does this will secure all those workstation from threats or we should install AV on all workstations independently instead of installing on PROXY server only... please answer with Key Points

Thanks

Installing AV on the proxy server will not protect your workstations from malware coming from removable media, such as USB memory devices, nor from email attachments, nor from encrypted web sessions, FTP transfers, instant messaging client transfers, etc., etc.

There are so many ways to get files onto a workstation, that you must base your protection there. If you really don't want to use a traditional AV product, you may be able to get adequate protection using some combination of LUA/SRP/whitelisting/sandboxing approaches.
