hey, i bought my iphone 3gs back from the states to use in the uk permanently. I had the phone unlocked and it worked fine. But I was told not to update itunes on my laptop if i was charging the phone thru my laptop which I was and I did. And the iphone crashed. I have taken it to see if it can be fixed but not at an apple store. Does anyone know if this is restorable? The phone was completely dead and would show noting on the screen apart from the apple sign...

Sounds faulty to me, take it to your apple store

There are many guides online about abphone recovery. The best option is to force your iphone into recovery mode and connect it to your itunes loaded computer and it will attempt a reflash.

Be warned though it will install OS4 and slow down your iphone. I'm not sure if you go down the official iphone store route if you will be allowed to install OS3,
